The Use of Firaa in “Marugoto: Japanese Language and Culture” Textbooks for Beginner (A1) and Elementary (A2) Levels

Filler, also known as Firaa in Japanese, is a discourse marker which frequently used by Japanese people daily communication. However, learners are less likely to employ this marker. This study aims identify the types of and their functions textbook “Marugoto: Language Culture” for Beginner (A1) Elementary (A2) levels. The data observed were collected from 217 audios chokai (listening) videos kaiwa (conversation) supplements Marugoto levels textbooks. type then categorized using Yamane’s (2002) theory, total 271 appear conversations has been collected. findings showed that only six vowel sound eight namely ‘Eeto’ type, ‘Ko-So-A’ ‘Hai’ ‘N’ ‘Maa’ ‘Saa’ found introduced textbooks at beginner elementary (A1 A2). Moreover, it based on level proficiency, so increases, increase. Further, (A1), we 74 times five types, while (A2), much higher frequency. Hence, can conclude Marugoto: Culture its’ own criteria use communicative approach introducing one characteristic markers level.
